Get ready for another amazing night of music featuring some of Vancouvers best at 2nd Floor Gastown. Saturday October, 24th we have none other than The Bad Pennies gracing our stage!

The Bad Pennies formed in Vancouver, BC, in the fall of 2022, when Jeff Baker (guitar/vocals) and Mark Milner (bass) began jamming together in a rehearsal studio at Pandora’s Box. In early 2023, Jim Reid was recruited as the drummer for the band. In June 2023, the band entered the BC Blues Challenge to begin building an audience. After the live performance round of the competition, the Fraser Valley Blues Society invited The Bad Pennies to represent the society, and by extension the province, in the band category at the 2024 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN, where they played a number of Beale Street clubs, including the venerable Rum Boogie Café. After their return from Memphis, the band recruited a fourth member. Hailing from Mexico City, Francisco Bonilla (guitar, vocals & percussion) plays electric and slide guitar. Jim Reid left the band in August, 2024, and was replaced by our newest Bad Penny, Guenter Schulz, on drums.

Journey into old-world Germany with Jacob Grimm and Wilhelm Grimm in this dark new theatrical reimagining of the famous brothers behind the world’s most haunting fairy tales. As political unrest spreads beneath a tyrannical regime, the brothers take refuge in a speakeasy above Water St Cafe, uncovering disturbing secrets, and transforming tragic real-life experiences into the twisted stories that would define generations.

The reserved and dependable Jacob struggles to protect both his family and ideals, while the charming and reckless Wilhelm becomes entangled in dangerous romances that leave heartbreak in their wake. At the center of their lives are the women who inspire their tales: Dorothea, whose mysterious and violent past gives birth to the legend of Little Red Riding Hood, and Henrietta, whose passion for folklore and turbulent love affairs helps shape the dark romance of Cinderella. Also featured is Mrs. McGuinness, the cruel and eccentric barkeeper.

Monique Angele (piano/keyboard and vocals)

Monique Angele is a Canadian–Australian singer-songwriter and pianist whose voice stops people mid-conversation. Blending operatic power with cinematic, piano-driven pop, she creates live performances that are both electrifying and deeply intimate.

With a background spanning opera, musical theatre, jazz, pop, and rock, Monique brings rare versatility to the stage. Her shows weave together her original music - rich with emotional storytelling and sweeping melodies - alongside bold, genre-bending covers that surprise and captivate. One moment is haunting and delicate, the next is explosive and fearless.

Having performed internationally across Canada, Australia, and Europe, Monique is also a singer with The Roxy Rollers, the house band at Vancouver’s iconic The Roxy Cabaret. She performs as a singer and dancer with Discobaby, Beauty Shop Dolls, and JBNG Band, and is a sought-after session vocalist and pianist — experience that has refined her into a commanding and magnetic live performer.
